Well, I've been workin on my old jeep here and there and have run into an issue with the brake lights.
I've got all of the lights workin except the brake lights. My parking lights and blinkers are working with the expception of an occasional lazy blinker.
I know that the bulbs are good as the tail lights and blinkers work.
I disconnected the brake switch and ran a wire between to complete the circut but no cigar. I also checked the fuse and it's fine.
Could the problem be in the blinker switch? I know that a red wire comes from the fuse block to the brake switch located at the top of the brake pedal and another red wire runs from there to the blinker switch and from there I'm not sure.
Any suggestions. I know there is a logical explanation and it's probably going to be a case of elimination.

Yeah, I disconnected it and just ran a wire between the two wires simulating the effect of the switch (completing the circut) and still no lights.
I ran out of time today but tommorrow I'll check and make sure there is power comming from the fuse block to the brake switch and proceed from there I suppose.

are there any cracked or broken or burnt wires that could be cuzeing a short when you hit the brake or complete the circut

Sounds like a grounding problem to me.

Blinker switches do some wierd stuff.
They control more than people think. git you a diagram and make sure the circuit goes through the multifunction switch. Figure out which wire goes to and which comes from the switch to the bulbs. jump those two and eliminate the "Blinker" switch.

Could be, at this point I'm not sure. I'm going to spend a little time this weekend trying to pinpoint something.

True dat! I was suprised to see how much of this system is interconnected and what knot. I'll give that suggestion a shot.
Thanks

I replaced the turn signal switch last night and still no brake lights. Between my last post and now the blinkers and headlights had quit working. So the blinkers and headlights work now.
One problem I have now is my ignition switch. After reinstalling the ignition, signal switch and steering wheel the ignition switch will turn and start the jeep without the key! The lock doo-hicky in the ignition doesn't seem to work now?

Do you have voltage at your brake light switch?

I'll get my multi tester and check it tomorrow.

Okay, I checked the brake switch and it is receiving voltage......I bypassed the switch and still no brake lights.....

thats a jeep "keyless entry" function. new lock cylinder is needed...

Ok, now do you have voltage from the brake switch to the turn signal switch?
If you do, check and see if you have voltage out off the turnsignal switch back to the stoplights.

You think so? It worked before I removed the steering wheel so I figured it had to be the way I reinstalled everything. I plan on replacing some more components in the steering....may be I'll go ahead and replace it while I'm in there.
